Amalgamated Anthracite Collieries – 7 plank N gauge

£21.95

Special edition 7 plank private owner wagon made by Dapol for their Collectors Club in 2020. Between 1923 and 1927 the government implemented a process of amalgamation within the Welsh coal industry. The aim was to reduce the number of companies mining for anthracite and reshape the industry, but the changes led to the miners strike of 1926 and for 6 months the coal mines were not worked. Many of the collieries in South Wales affected by amalgamation did not survive this period and never re-opened. At the time Amalgamated Anthracite Collieries was formed there were 60 different companies operating in West Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire, Breconshire and parts of Pembrokeshire. The following collieries made up Amalgamated Anthracite Collieries – Cleeves Western Valleys Anthracite, Gurnos Anthracite, United Anthracite, Welsh Anthracite, Hendersons Welsh Anthracite, Gwaun-cae-Gurwen and Vale of Neath Colliery. With each of these companies came a fleet of wagons, most made by Charles Roberts or the Cambrian Wagon Company. To achieve some uniformity they were in the main painted black but the wording and livery design varied. The livery modelled here was photographed in 1937. ERA: 3. Wagon is in excellent condition with all buffers and couplings intact. Box in very good condition.
