Charles Bazzard & Son – 7 plank OO

Limited edition 7 plank wagon commissioned by West Wales Wagon Works and made by Dapol in 2003. Limited edition no. 137 of 151 pristine wagons. Charles Bazzard had a long association with the coal industry starting as a coal clerk before having an interest in the Avan Hill Colliery in Abergwynfi. In 1901 he was in business as a colliery agent along with his eldest son Charles Jnr who was a co-partner in the company. In 1908 Charles Snr retired and Charles Jnr continued on. The wagon modelled here was from a batch of wagons purchased from the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon company in 1908 which comprised of six 10 ton and three 12 ton 7 plank end door wagons with brakes on one side. It seems that most of the companies business was from local trade indicated by the return to S.W.M.R Briton Ferry on the wagon. Coal was transported from collieries on the South Wales Mineral Railway and then transported to local businesses and docks. ERA: 2
Wagon is in excellent condition with all couplings and buffers intact. Original box with West Wales limited edition sticker. Box in very good condition.
