Exclusive release from The Wagon Yard produced for us by Rapido Trains UK. Limited to 125 pristine vans. The Chesire Lines Committee was the second largest joint railway in the UK and was formed by the Great Northern Railway and Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway (later Great Central Railway) along with the Midland Railway. This alliance was in response to the London & North Western Railway’s monopoly of lines west of Manchester. The CLC owned it’s own rolling stock mostly built by the GNR and GCR. The CLC stretched from Stockport and Manchester down to Chester to connect Wales and across to Liverpool and Southport with a substantial network of 143 route miles. After grouping in 1923 the CLC passed into the joint ownership of the LNER and LMS and continued until nationalisation in 1948.
Built at the Great Northern Railway works at Doncaster in 1909 the CLC 19ft 10T Covered Goods Van was pretty much identical to the Great Northern Railway 8T van however unlike those vans the CLC 10t variant was unfitted. These vans were used for all types of traffic not just on the CLC but would have travelled anywhere required nationally, and at grouping would have retained their livery for several years meaning the model is suitable for pre grouping and grouping layouts.
The model is a close representation however due to tooling constraints it will a slightly different brake arrangement to the prototype. This is as far as we know only the second ever CLC rolling stock offered ready to run and the first ever box van. ERA’s: 2 & 3
