Dennett & Co were coal merchants operating in the town of Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex in the early to mid 1900’s. Based at 6 Western Road little information exists regarding the company but an article in the local Observer newspaper in 1909 describes the company as “an enterprising firm of coal merchants”. The company had just introduced a steam powered motor wagon to undertake delivery direct to their local customers in the town and surrounding areas.
In terms of the companies railway wagons little information exists apart from a 1909 list which has Dennett & Co as a trader registered for an account with the L&NWR. The L&NWR linked London Euston to Birmingham, Liverpool Manchester plus South Wales, Derby and Nottingham up until 1923. It is therefore likely they had wagons with which to transport coal from collieries either in South Wales or the coal fields in Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire. The livery is a realistic representation based on  private owner wagons of the era.

(Private Owner Wagons of the South East by John Arkell, Lightmoor Press, Bexhill Observer and L&NWR route information).
