M. C. Ashwin – 7 plank wagon N gauge

£22.95

Limited edition private owner plank wagon commissioned by Armstrong 440 in 2007 and made by Dapol. Limited edition certificate included no. 103 of 199.

M.C. (Manley Cormell) Ashwin was a merchant based in Stratford-on-Avon during the mid to late 1800’s. Although the wagons simply stated business as coal merchants the 1864 Kelly’s Directory of Warwickshire had the company listed as dealers in Peruvian Guano, Nitrate of Soda, turnips, wheat, corn, seed, stonework and much, much more besides. The following listing was for “M.C. Ashwin general carriers and GWR agents”. Coal surprisingly wasn’t listed but other documents show they also did trade in coal. This particular wagon modelled here was a later acquisition from the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Company in 1925 when M.C’s son Manley Horton Ashwin had taken over running of the business, M. C. Ashwin passed away in 1908. ERA: 3. Model is superb condition with all couplings and buffers intact. Box in very good condition
