Manton (Wigan Coal & Iron Co) – 7 plank OO

Limited edition 7 plank wagon commissioned by Castle Trains and made by Dapol in 2007. Limited edition of 200 pristine wagons, certificate included no. 148. The Wigan Coal & Iron Company was established in the late 1800’s, it was an impressive enterprise and for many years it traded in coal from Lancashire. Between 1897 and 1906 work took place to sink a pit near Worksop in Nottinghamshire forming the the Manton Wood Colliery. The colliery had good rail connections and was on former Great Central line from Sheffield to Lincoln. The wagon modelled here is from an order placed with Leicestershire based wagon builders Stableford & Co Ltd for 500 wagons circa 1923. The wagons were registered with the LNER.  ERA: 3

Wagon is in great condition with all couplings and buffers intact, there is a small hole in base of the chassis (see photo). It appears to be from a screw possibly to hold a load in place at some point. The hole has no adverse effect on the aesthetic or running of the wagon. Box in good condition with some light wear to corners and the name of the wagon has been written on one end of the box.
