Mynydd Maen Colliery Co Ltd – 7 plank OO

Limited edition 7 plank wagon commissioned by David Dacey and made by Dapol in 2004. Limited edition certificate included, this being no. 20 of 110 pristine wagons made. Mynydd Maen Colliery was a small concern based near Pontypool in Monmouthshire. Established in 1912 the Colliery was named after the hill which the coal seam it mined ran into. The colliery produced steam, gas and house coals with its gas coal being supplied to Cardiff Gas Works via coal factors James & Emmanuel. A private siding was in use at Crane Street in Pontypool and due to the collieries localised business it’s wagons are unlikely to of travelled far out of Wales. The company was round up in 1948 although the colliery continued to be worked up until 1955. Despite being small the colliery had a good sized fleet of wagons supplied by the Gloucester Railway Carriage & wagon Co. The wagon modelled here was made by Gloucester in 1915 and was part of an order of six wagons which were registered with the GWR. ERA’s: 2 and 3
