Penlan Colliery – 7 plank OO

Limited edition 7 plank wagon commissioned by West Wales Wagon Works and made by Dapol in 2008. Limited edition of 114 pristine wagons, this is a second issue of the wagon (the first batch of 114 was also produced in 2008) and this wagon is no. 202 of the total 228 produced. Penlan Colliery was established in the late 1800’s on the Gower Peninsula, near Swansea. Coal was transported from the colliery via the Llanmorlais Branch line of the L&NWR. The colliery was recorded as having three locations, each was in operation at different times over it’s lifespan. The colliery did not operate continuously and had dormant periods being wound up and re-opened on a number of occasions with the last of these in 1920, however the company name carried on with an association with New Gellihir Colliery in 1947. The wagon modelled here dates from 1908 when the company ordered 120 wagons from the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Company. All of the wagons were registered with the L&NWR. ERA: 2
Wagon is in excellent condition with all couplings and buffers intact. Original box with West Wales limited edition sticker. Box in fair condition, with some wear to edges and corners.
