The Swansea Navigation Collieries Company was formed in 1909 and took over the concerns of the Mountain Colliery in Gorseinon, Glamorganshire. They would inherit numerous wagons made by the Ince Wagon & Ironworks Co, registered on the L&NWR. By the 1920’s the colliery was producing some 200,000 tons of steam and manufacturing coal per year. In 1933 Swansea Navigation would become a subsidiary of Richard Thomas & Co and in 1939 would obtain and begin operating the Cae Duke Colliery located in the Swansea Coal fields until its closure in 1947. Operations finally ceased at the Mountain Colliery site in 1969.
