William Thomas & Co Ltd – 7 plank OO
Limited edition 7 plank wagon produced by Dapol for Wessex Wagons in 2005. Limited edition certificate included no. 78 of 167 pristine wagons made. William Thomas formed the company in 1842, but records indicate his father, Francis had started the brick and tile production as a way of diversifying from farming in 1837. Th company was incorporated in 1866 and expanded into ownership of other brickyards. William Thomas would pass away 1872 and a new chairman was appointed to run the company, continuing its expansion with an agreement for use of a GWR private siding east of Wellington Station in 1890. The company was successful for many years but was eventually liquidated in 1966. The history of this particular wagon is a little muddled but in a photograph in 1887 it carries the plate of the Gloucester Wagon Co, indicating it was one of two wagons hired in that year. ERA: 2 and 3. The wagon is in excellent like new condition with all buffers and couplings intact. Box is in fair condition with some wear.
